That’s right! This next slam (Thursday July 21st) BSP turns 3 and we want you to come celebrate with us!
As usual we are having an open mic, slam, and feature performer. This month our Feature is David Perez. David has toured and slammed all over the world and has realeased his first poetry book “Love in a Time of Robot Apocalypse” (which hopefully will be for sale at the slam). Read more about him on our blog.
For an extra dose of fun this month will be our first ever “Anything Goes Slam”. That means slammers can use props, costumes, musical instruments, and do covers! The only rule still in effect is the time limit (3 min 10 sec) because as much as we all LOVE poetry the bar does close eventually!
Don’t think the fun stops there! We will also be making a few more special announcements the night of the slam. So you have to come out to find out!
As always, the night kicks off at 8pm and cover is only $5 (Only $5?????)
Until next time…
…Spread the word!

BURLINGTON SLAM PROJECT June 18th - CHANGE NOTICE
"Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement" - William Pollard
We are certainly not strangers to the concept of change. Last month we had a last minute Feature cancellation, this month we have a venue complication. This month our venue, Honey West, has double booked for Thursday night. Apparently they had the other group on the calendar longer so we're SOL (Sadly Over Lubricated).
"For anything worth having one must pay the price" - John Burroughs

We STRONLY believe having a place to express ourselves through words, here in Burlington is very worthwhile. Our benfactor, Tomy Bewick, doesn't understand the term "quit" and so I have sourced an alternative venue that is just around the corner... We have booked the "Empire Room" at the Queens Head Pub (http://www.thequeenshead.ca/) which is at 400 Brant Street.
They don't really know we're having a slam, but I told them that we would have 20 to 30 people eating and drinking so please don't make a liar out of me...
Come on through, check out our KILLER FEATURE - "Shihan", and when we pass the hat or ask for your $5 just remember we're trying to bring you a show that you can't get anywhere else in the suburbs!
If you need directions or have any questions check out our facebook event page (http://www.facebook.com/inbox/readmessage.php?t=1176790261131&f=1&e=-12#/event.php?eid=92979257390).
Peace, blessing, and hope to see you there!

New Poetry Slam Series Starting in Ottawa - Bill Brown's 1-2-3 Slam
Can you throw down with Bill Brown?
Cytopoetics presents the newest poetry series to grace the local Ottawa spoken word scene – Bill Brown’s 1-2-3 Slam. The inaugural show takes place at Umi Café on Thursday, September 18, hosted by Ritallin and Hyfidelik. Sign-up at 7:30 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m. Cover is $5.
At Bill Brown’s 1-2-3 Slam, each spoken word artist in the competition (to a maximum of 12) will perform a 1-minute poem in the first round, with the usual grace period and time penalties of a classic slam format. The top 8 performers earn the right to move on to a second round with 2-minute poems. The four best scorers in the second round qualify for a Showdown Round with standard slam-length 3-minute poems. The highest scoring poet in the final round wins Bill Brown – a $100 bank note complete with a picture of the 8th Prime Minister of Canada, Robert Borden. Each round wipes the slate clean on the scores, so you just never know who’s going to come out on top!
Poets – get writing your 1- and 2-minute poems and then come down to Umi to be part of Ottawa’s newest poetic experience!
Bill Brown’s 1-2-3 Slam takes place at the Umi Café (610 Somerset St. W. at Percy) on the third Thursday of each month. Check www.umicafe.org for updates and information.
